Ron Pernick
Co-founder and principal of Clean Edge is an accomplished market research, publishing, and business development entrepreneur with more than two decades of high-tech experience. He is also the co-author of the highly acclaimed book The Clean Tech Revolution (Collins, 2007). At Clean Edge he has co-authored more than a dozen reports on emerging clean technologies and has worked with a range of clients including multinationals, start-ups, government agencies, and investors. He oversees many of Clean Edge’s strategic initiatives including the co-production of the annual Clean-Tech Investor Summit and the creation and management of the NASDAQ® Clean Edge® U.S. Index. Prior to founding Clean Edge, he ran his own environmental web consulting practice and earlier helped build the brands of such Internet pioneers as Internet In A Box, Preview Travel, The WELL, and Yahoo! During his career, he has worked in the U.S. and Japan, serving both emerging and established companies. Ron is adjunct faculty at Portland State University where he teaches an MBA-level course on clean-tech entrepreneurship and is a regular speaker at U.S. and international conferences and events.
Joel Makower
Co-founder and principal, is a leading strategist on clean technology and sustainable business practices. He is also chairman and executive editor of Greener World Media, producer of GreenBiz.com, an acclaimed web portal on business and the environment. He is a former nationally syndicated columnist; a bestselling author or co-author of more than a dozen books, including The E-Factor: The Bottom-Line Approach to Environmentally Responsible Business. His latest book, Strategies for the Green Economy, will be published in fall 2008 by McGraw-Hill. He is a frequent lecturer at business conferences and advises more than a dozen for-profit and nonprofit organizations, including VantagePoint Venture Partners, on whose clean-tech advisory council he sits.
Dexter Gauntlett
Senior research and marketing associate, has worked in the clean-energy sector for both private and non-profit organizations in the U.S. and developing countries. At Clean Edge he works on numerous market-research assignments, manages the company’s website, and performs other operational duties. Dexter worked in Sri Lanka and Tajikistan before moving to Portland. Prior to joining the Clean Edge team he worked for Green Empowerment, Green Mountain Energy, and Relief International. Born and raised in Silicon Valley during the height of the tech boom, Dexter received his degree from UCLA with a specialization in international relations.
Clint Wilder
Contributing editor for Clean Edge, is an award-winning technology and business journalist. His book The Clean Tech Revolution (with co-author Ron Pernick) published by Collins in June 2007, has been called “the best clean tech book” by ClimateProgress.org and is being translated into five languages. Wilder is a frequent speaker at industry events and writes a blog on clean tech for the business section of The Huffington Post. Before joining Clean Edge in 2002, he covered the high tech and Internet industries for more than 15 years for Information Week, Optimize, Computerworld, and Corporate Computing magazines.
Zac Christie
Clean Edge 2007-2008 intern, is a 2008 MBA candidate at the Yale School of Management and a 2008 MEM candidate at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. He is focusing his studies on energy finance and emerging markets. Zac also holds an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies from Duke University. Prior to the MBA/MEM program, Zac worked in marketing program management, as a web program manager for Veritas Software and IBM WebSphere in San Francisco, CA. He recently completed an internship with Airtricity, Inc.’s finance department. Zac has lived in Germany and South America and is conversant in both German and Spanish.
