T-Solar Cuts Ribbon on $104 Million Spanish PV Module Factory
October 31, 2008Source: New Energy Finance
T-Solar, the Spanish PV manufacturer and project developer owned by
eight local banks and three business groups, has opened a 40MW per
year module plant in Orense, Galicia.
The factory has cost "more than 80 million euros" ($104 million),
and will employ 190 staff, according to the company.
T-Solar claimed it would make the biggest panels in the market, at
5.7 square metres, and use a thin silicon layer that would cut
production costs by more than 25%.
The technology for the modules comes from US specialist Applied
Materials. T-Solar said it plans to increase output to 65MW per year
in a second phase.
The firm also revealed details of its project development
activities. It said it has 28 PV stations in Spain, with total power
capacity of 143.4MW. The largest is a 34.2MW station at Arnedo in La
Rioja, followed by a 11.5MW installation at Elduayen in Badajoz.
T-Solar is 26.9% owned by Vista BV, 26.5% owned by Promoter Group,
9% by industrial firm Isolux Corsan, and 37.6% by a group of eight
banks including Caja Castilla La Mancha and Caja Sol.
